Knitting and Reading

The whole reason I started this blog was because I *love* to read knitting blogs.  I love them.  Really, many a Friday evening is spent reading blogs.  But, I’m looking for more to add to my blogroll.

Here’s where you come in, faithful (?) reader.

Post a comment with your favorite knitting blog.  I would prefer those that may not have a huge readership.  You know, it’s the blog that you check every day, just to see if there’s a new post.  It’s the blog that not everyone reads, but you think that the knitting world would be better if more people did.  Or, maybe, you want to keep it a secret and only give out the address to a select few.  Whatever your reason, I trust you and I would love a few new blogs to add to the blogroll.

Give me one, or give me more, I don’t care.

While I prefer knitting blogs, I’m open to (almost) any kind of blog.  Don’t hold back.

Knitting:

Eh, I did absolutely no knitting this weekend.  Seriously, not one stitch.  But, I have the front done of the tank and I’m almost ready to turn the heel on Josh’s second sock.  I’ll post pictures one of these days.

Reading:

I finished Nineteen Minutes on Friday.  I’ve started Complications by Atul Gawande, a National Book Award finalist.  It’s really, really good.  For me, it’s demystifying doctors and what they do.  But, he also writes about things that doctors can’t figure out, like pain, and nausea.  He’s scientific, but it’s still easy to read.  It’s one of those books that I know when I get to the end, I’m going to wish there was more.  As luck would have it, when I was looking for the link, I found that he’s written another book, titled Better.

  1. I’m a big fan of Stranded on Fair Isle (woolyewe.blogspot.com) because of her gorgeous work and pictures. I’ve also been enjoying Knit Me A River (knitmeariver.blogspot.com) which has gorgeous yarn pr0n photos every Friday.

Atul Gawande is a really good writer! I’ve read some of his stuff in the New Yorker. Another good writing doctor is Kevin Patterson, who was a friend of my brother’s in med school.

  2. Honestly, don’t be in *too* much of a rush. Someday you’ll be like me with over 70, or my buddy Ann with well over 100 (she won’t even admit how many she has anymore).

One I’ve enjoyed lately is http://girlwhoknits.blogspirit.com/ I found her because she was doing a Venezia. She’s made a bunch more sweaters since then, all fabulous

The Keyboard Biologist has a huge readership (http://www.keyboardbiologist.net/knitblog/ ) and deservedly so. She’s gotten into quilting lately and it makes me want to learn to sew!

And Turtlegirl is usually good for a laugh: http://turtlegirl76.com/

  3. I loooooove reading knitting blogs too. I’ve only recently overcome my shyness and started commenting, which has turned out to be very rewarding as well. Here are a few I recently stumbled across and enjoy:

  4. Oh! So this is how you found me! Cool!

I recommend http://rkbezzie.blogspot.com for hilarity AND knitting. Also http://beholdmybrilliance.blogspot.com for not so much knitting (though she does knit and occasionally talks about it) but she’s freakin’ hilarious.

Those are the two I check in my blogroll first for new posts.
