Knitting and Reading

Merino-Ahhh!!

Filed under: Cream Baby Cardi, Socks — by Heather @ 8:52 am

I got the yarn on Monday and I think I started the socks on Wednesday.

I love, love, love this yarn, and I love the colorway just as much.

Chewy Spaghetti Alluring 9/15

When I first looked at it, I thought it was pretty, but wasn’t sure how it would knit up.  I have to say, it’s amazing.  I would never have put those colors together, but there’s a reason that I’m not a dyer.  I love the way it stripes with the blue, then the shades of pinks.

I’ve pooh-pooh varigated colorways for quite some time.  Since I was doing lace and other patterns, anything other than a solid took away from the pattern.  My experience with anything that wasn’t a solid wasn’t good, either.  I had mostly used Knit Picks old self-striping, which wasn’t really pretty and wasn’t a nice base yarn.

I just didn’t know what a beautiful colorway could look like when it was knit up.  My mind can only handle stockinette these days and I’m so happy with this yarn.

Can I also gush about the great base yarn?  It’s sooo soft!  It’s nothing compared to Vesper, thank goodness.  I don’t know that I’ll buy a lot of sport weight in the future, but it is nice to have such a quick knit.  I’m still drawn to fingering weight.  Khris has said that she may do something similar to the Blue Plate Special with fingering weight in the future.  I will definitely sign up for that.

The Cream Baby Cardi is coming along.  I’m almost done with the second sleeve and I hope to start the collar and hood today.  That is, if the socks don’t distract me.

By the way, given my busy work schedule, I probably won’t be posting much more than once a week.  My knitting has slowed down, and I don’t have the time or energy to post in the evenings.

  2. I’m glad you’ve got some merino on the needles! I’m feeling some weird blogger simpatico, though; I’ve got a merino sock in a colorway that looks almost exactly like that on the needles right now, too!

I know the quick-to-knit aspect of sport weight socks is appealing, but are they as comfy to wear as fingering weight socks?

  3. Lovely socks! I know what you mean about not having time to post … I have a bunch of things I want to blog on about but no time to do it!

  5. Cool socks! I would have a hard time putting those down too. If only there were more hours in the day…

  6. Very cool – I agree about the colors, I’d never think to put them together but they’re playing together nicely.

I started socks tonight in this very loud RED/BLUE/YELLOW/GREEN (indeed, all caps) colorway from Regia… got it on sale at WEBS and wanted to try the wool/elastic blend. And it turns out that it knits up pretty nicely, not a grown-up thing but I have two people in my house with very small and cute feet. Will post pictures… sometime…
