Knitting and Reading

I do read, I promise!

I’ve always been a reader.  I can’t imagine my life without books.  But, I was always the kid in school that did the book reports last minute, or the one that signed up for the summer reading program at the public library, but never “read” enough books to get the prizes at the end of the summer.

I read a lot, but it’s always been about the reading for me.  It’s not about filling out a form, or even updating a list of the books I’ve read.

I started this blog to talk about knitting.  There is no one in my life that loves knitting the way that I do.  Frankly, I think they get sick of hearing about it.  I also wanted to talk about the books I’ve read and to keep track of them.  The knitting part is easy, but the reading part has been more difficult.  The main problem is that I read faster than I update this blog and I can’t be bothered trying to remember what book I finished and when I finished it.  So, the list is out.  I had good intentions, but it just isn’t practical.

I have been reading.  Not as much as I would like.  With my work/home/knitting schedule, my reading time is limited to reading in bed, after LouLa is asleep and after I’ve gotten about an hour of knitting time in.  Unfortunately, that means that I sometimes read for less than 30 minutes before I fall asleep.  The good thing is that I’m a fast reader, so I can get through a book or so a week.

My latest reading spree has been the fantasy books by Jennifer Fallon.  They’re very good, full of political intrigue and backstabbing.  She does well at character development, which is important to me.  So far I’ve read two books in one of the trilogies, and the first book in another trilogy.  (Another reason I can’t keep a list of books is that I’m horrible with remembering titles and authors)

Right now I’m reading The Divide, by Nicholas Evans (author of The Horse Whisperer).  It’s okay, and it’s a quick read.

I have checked out The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton.  I loved The Age of Innocence.  The problem is that I need to be in the right mood to read that kind of book.  There’s no telling if that will happen after I’m done with The Divide.  If not, I’ll get another Jennifer Fallon book.
